Reignite the Romance: Quality Vacation Time for Couples

Guys, I want to be so honest with you. If you are in a long term relationship, or married, then you KNOW that your relationship can feel monotonous and routine after a while. We’ve tried date nights, cute at home activities, celebrating the holidays, hosting a party…We’ve all changed it up. As life takes over, it can be easy for couples to lose the spark that brought them together.

The ONE thing that we’ve found that seriously keeps us positive, obsessed with each other, and always having fun is new experiences together. These can be short weekend trips: leave Friday and return Sunday, or they can be one day adventures in a city nearby.

Stepping away from the routine of life is so essential in your relationship, we were meant to explore and really provide a much-needed opportunity to step away from the distractions of everyday life and focus on each other. Here are some tips for making the most of your couples vacation and remembering why you fell in love:

  1. Choose a destination that speaks to both of your interests. Whether it’s a beach getaway or a city break, finding a location that appeals to both of you will set the stage for a more enjoyable and memorable trip.
  2. Instead of staying in hotel, book a unique experience through Airbnb or Vrbo. Staying in a cabin in the mountains, or beach house on the shore can really ensure your experience places you in the scene you are vacationing at.
  3. Connect with your partner through experiences and conversation. Make sure to schedule activities that allow you to spend one-on-one time together, such as couples massages or romantic dinners.
  4. Get active together. Vacations provide a great opportunity to try new things and get outside your comfort zone. Whether it’s hiking, snorkeling, or taking a dance class, participating in activities together can bring you closer and create new shared experiences. Be sure to choose something unique, this will ensure you make new memories.
  5. Disconnect from technology. Put down the phones and laptops, and make a conscious effort to fully be present with each other. This can help you reconnect and appreciate each other’s company. If you’re using your phone to take pictures try setting it to ‘Do Not Disturb.’
  6. Reflect on your relationship. Use the downtime on vacation to have meaningful conversations about your relationship and where you want it to go. This can help strengthen your bond and set the foundation for a long, healthy relationship.

Traveling is exciting and allows us to take a break from our normal lives. Taking a break from work and other responsibilities will help you relax and recharge, your mental health will thank you.

I knew a couple years ago who alternated getting to choose where to go / what to do for vacations, agreeing that they would be positive about whatever was chosen. He liked to make U.S. car trips to national parks, with stops along the way. She liked *Tahiti* and other exotic locales. It worked for them :-).
