Say Goodbye to Summer with 21 Things To Do This September

Happy Fall! With the first day of autumn approaching us quickly on September 22, it’s time to say goodbye to summer and hello to changing leaves, weekends full of football, cooler weather and, of course, pumpkin spice! If you’re just as excited as I am, let’s jump into the fall season together and all the cozy nights, outfits, coffees, seasonal favorites and events ahead.

Actively enjoying the season

  • Visit a nearby apple picking farm.🍎 Not only will you enjoy your fresh picked apples, but also the season’s first sip of apple cider. Don’t forget to pair it with an apple cider doughnut!
  • Rent a bike to ride through the park. Enjoy the cooler breeze and scenery of the leaves changing color.
  • Walk around a local Fall Festival. Feel the season change with your community. Support local artists and vendors in your area by attending a local fall festival.
  • Go camping in the changing weather. Camping in the summer can be too hot and no one enjoys the uninvited guests (the bugs!) but in the fall, the weather is cozier and perfect for taking in the seasons ambiance.
  • Go on a run in the cooler weather.🍁 There’s something about running in the cooler weather that makes us feel like we can do anything we put our minds too. Maybe you will love it so much you sign up for a half marathon!
  • Find your way through a corn maze.🌽 For all my puzzle lovers and those that enjoy the thrill of finding one’s way out of the puzzle.

Go to a local thrift store to pick out a themed fall canvas. This is such a fun idea to add your own little touch to your home decor. Pick out a themed canvas and paint in your own ghosts, pumpkins, leaves, haunted house and tractors.

Home is where the coffee is♨️

  • Grab a pumpkin spice latte. September 1st is the day many of our favorite coffee shops break out the fall flavors. There’s nothing like enjoying fall with a cup of hot or iced pumpkin spiced coffee.
  • Make a homemade fall drink at home. Looking for something new to try? My friend recommended a a pumpkin spice chai latte and it may not be for everyone but if it sounds like something you’d love, here’s the recipe: Iced Pumpkin Cream Chai Tea Latte.
  • Go to a coffee shop to enjoy the fall ambiance. One of the best things about this time of year is the decor that comes with it. Soak it all in!
  • Read a romance novel. No two better things go together like coffee and a good book. Find a seat in your local coffee shop and let your mind take you elsewhere – fall in love with love.

It’s touch-down season🏈⭐

  • Host a football party for your favorite team. Home football parties are where the food is! If you are looking to change things up, order some decor off Amazon, and prep the food into fun football shapes. Find Amazon Football Party Essentials here.
  • Go to your state’s home NFL football game. Watching the game in real time is an experience in its own. Complete the day by tailgating beforehand with friends and family.

Fall parties🍂

  • Host a chili cook off with your friends or family. All chilis should be judged and a prize won.
  • Host a bonfire night. It’s not a fall bonfire without the s’mores.

Baked Goods, but Homemade

  • Make pumpkin chocolate chip banana bread.🎃 Not a fan of the fall favorites? Try this classic with an added favorite!
  • Cinnamon apple bread. Perfect for the first day of autumn!
  • Make a fall candle. Grab 2-3 of your favorite scents and get that wax melting. I recommend picking a cute glass candle holder such as a leaf, pumpkin or skull head.

Activities the Whole Family will Enjoy

Disney on Ice.❄️ The magic of Disney on Ice in your town is one of the most popular events this holiday season. Find a show near you here!

  • Visit a local farm.🚜 Pet the animals and enjoy the hayrides.
  • DIY a fall wreath. Enjoy a touch of homemade right at your front door.
  • Attend a Fall Festivals near you.🍂 Fall festivals offer a variety of carnival rides, sweet treats, food, and entertainment for the whole family.
  • Have a ghost or pumpkin head photoshoot.🎃 Photos tell us stories we want to remember forever, so do something different that will make the season feel real.

  1. I LOVE all of these ideas. I am totally going to suggest a chili cook-off at work and I may even try my hand at a fall wreath.
    Thanks for the great ideas!
